All 54 municipalities in Bucks County have adopted the county’s Hazard Mitigation Plan, according to Lynn Bush, executive director of the county Planning Commission.
The plan outlines strategies to address 21 emergencies including bridge collapses, transportation accidents, catastrophic weather and pandemics.
Any municipality that did not sign on would have to create its own, and representatives from each one attended meetings and contributed to its formation.
“It’s a really good example of how our county departments cooperate and work jointly with emergency management,” said Bush. “We cooperate at the state level with FEMA and of course all our municipalities take part in this.”
Bush pointed to an accident on Route 611 earlier this month, where emergency workers were able to efficiently lessen the impact using the plan.
“Our people were trained to deal with a situation like that,” she said. — Jack Firneno
