Ivy Hill Therapeutic Equestrian Center volunteer Sophia Boquist of Doylestown was recently recognized as a recipient of a Bronze Congressional Award Medal for outstanding work in personal development, physical fitness and volunteering in the community. The award was presented to her by Mike Fitzpatrick before he left Congress.

Boquist has been a volunteer at Ivy Hill Therapeutic Equestrian Center in Perkasie since October 2015 and has logged nearly 150 hours of volunteer work. The mission of the nonprofit Ivy Hill is to create therapeutic programs for individuals with cognitive, physical, emotional, behavioral and psychological needs utilizing the equine experience.

Her father, retired U. S. Air Force Col. Rob Boquist, is an Ivy Hill volunteer, along with her mother Rebecca and brother Quinn, a Boy Scout and sixth-grader at Mill Creek Elementary School and Boy Scout.

We are blessed to have Sophia and her family as part of the Ivy Hill family of volunteers,” said Ivy Hill executive director Donna Carlson. “Our volunteers are the heart of Ivy Hill and work as a team with our instructors and staff to provide the best care and service to our riders, horses, facility and grounds.”

In addition to volunteering, Boquist is interested in United States history, is active in Girls Scouts and the co-ed venturing program of the Boy Scouts, plays piano with the Unami String Ensemble and is a member of the Central Bucks West High School swim team. She has already completed the requirements for her Silver Medal award and is now working toward the Gold Congressional Award.
