Tween arrested for online clown threats against Bensalem schools

A 12-year-old was arrested after the juvenile was traced to an Instagram account called “BENSALEM Clowns.” The account held the message “BENSALEM CLOWN we are coming shafer and Snyder Tick Tock” and included emojis of a knife, gun and needle.

The juvenile is charged with making terroristic threats and harassment today, according to Bensalem police.

The post led to increased police activity around those schools. Bensalem police will maintain a “strong presence” in and around Bensalem School District facilities, according to a press release.

The release also states the threat was not a viable one, nor were students or staff ever in danger.

The arrest comes on the heels of a 13-year-old girl in Philadelphia being arrested for clown-related social media threats against Philadelphia schools this week. A 13-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy were also arrested this week for allegedly making similar threats against schools in Washington Township, New Jersey.
